VGR Equipment highlights the qualities and applications of the TopChanger XP in a series of articles. This sixth edition explains what the TopChanger XP can do when the top layer is unstable.
A soft, unstable top layer offers players little stability when standing or moving, and increases the risk of damage to the turf. Especially in high-traffic areas – such as tee boxes or goalmouths – the surface often feels too loose or spongy.
Stability
The TopChanger XP helps improve surface stability without the need for rotovating or regrading. By injecting sand deep into the soil profile, weak spots are reinforced and the underlying structure is strengthened. The sand binds with existing material particles, creating a firmer root anchoring zone.
At Depth
It also promotes better water distribution and air supply, encouraging more active root growth. Instead of a superficial fix like topdressing, the TopChanger XP works deep below the surface. This makes it not just a corrective action, but a long-term investment in structural turf quality – with a noticeable improvement in playability and ease of maintenance.
