‘Customer contact and machine maintenance’

12 March 2024

Sem van Vuuren, and Kant Elshout, form the service team at VGR Verschoor. Together, they are responsible for the smooth and efficient handling of customer enquiries and service requests. Sem gives an insight into repairs, maintenance and the dynamics of his work.

Sem is forty years old and, with a short interruption, has been working for the Verschoor family since the turn of the century.

Golf course
Sem recalls, "I started out working on Arwin's father's golf course. When he founded VGR Verschoor, I followed Arwin there. Both at the golf course and later at VGR Verschoor, I was involved in machine maintenance and occasionally helped out in the field. I took a few years off, but I've been back for two and a half years now: this is where I belong!

Supporting role
"My main role is to support our customers with any problems they may have. Together with Kant, I ensure that the necessary parts are prepared and dispatched on time. I am also responsible for maintaining the various machines that my colleagues use to provide their services, whether they are tractors, mowers or the TopChanger.

Growth and experience
Over the years, Sem has gained a wealth of experience and grown with the company, naturally moving into service and maintenance. "The beauty of working at VGR Verschoor is that no two days are the same. There are always new challenges and new ideas. I'm involved in all three departments, which makes my work incredibly varied. I particularly enjoy solving problems, such as advising customers about the TopChanger.

Customer interaction
"In our 'two-man department', I deal with customer contact. Customers contact us either by phone or by e-mail, which is particularly efficient for international enquiries due to time differences or possible language barriers". Sem continues, "Working with Kant works really well. He focuses more on building, dispatching, and managing the warehouse. Together, we ensure everything runs smoothly.”

Personal life
“I’ve been married for almost 12.5 years and have three children. We live in Waalwijk. In my spare time, I’m cheering on the sidelines at my children’s hockey and soccer games. They are busy but fun weekends! I also enjoy going out to the pub with friends. As for my education, I studied mechanical engineering at vocational college in Den Bosch. But as always, I learn the most here in practice at VGR Verschoor!”
